At AG Site Testing, we are able to undertake intrusive survey's and complete sulphate attack investigations in private or commercial property . All lab analysis is carried out at a UKAS accredited laboratory and full detailed report based on findings and in accordance with published documents and government literature.
Predominantly requested during the sale of an existing property, surveys are often carried out in areas throughout the northeast of England, such as County Durham, Northumberland and Tyne and Wear.
Due to post war timber shortages, concrete slabs were primarily used in the construction of properties. During this period, it was common in areas linked with the coal and steel industry to use base material derived from colliery spoil or furnace slag, which in time and in presence of sufficient moisture levels, is known to release concentrations of sulphates into the concrete oversite above.
With regards to sulphate attack, it has also been documented that properties constructed within geographical areas that fall within shale boundaries can suffer from symptoms carried with that of using recycled hardcore material.
Depending on the concentration levels within the fill material and the amount of moisture present, overtime deleterious effects can occur to the concrete with symptoms such as cracking and doming of the concrete as well as weakened structural integrity.
